The Jewish Council of Romania was the official body representing the Jewish community from 1941-1944. This collection contains material dating 1942-1944. There is no indication in the Romanian language inventory at the National Archives regarding the year or circumstances of acquisition. There is also no information regarding whether this material represents the complete files of the Council or whether there may be additional material in different repositories. The Leo Baeck Institute surveyed individual folders with material related to Bukovina and Transylvania. Many of these files dealt with communities and individuals in Bukovina, including significant material concerning those deported to Transnistria.
