Târgu-Mureș, district of Iobăgeni [Valea] and Șilea [Șilea Nirajului] - Jewish Orthodox: deaths

This register is kept in Hungarian, with printed titles in Hungarian and German. Information recorded is: Name and birthplace of the deceased, date of death, occupation (generally not completed), gender, marriage status, age, place of burial, illness and manner of death. The majority of the individuals listed were from Iobăgeni (today renamed Valea, next to Vărgata, Hungarian Jobbágyfalva) and Șilea (today Șilea Nirajului, Hungarian Selye or Nyárádselye), but there are also many entries from the surrounding villages especially Grâușorul (Hungarian Buzaháza). The book is "opened" in 1872, but the first entry is from 1875.

These registers were maintained by the respective Jewish community and/or local municipality and collected in the 1950s by the National Archives. There are no details provided for the individual registers; presumably the rural registers were collected and stored by the Jewish community of Târgu Mureș sometime around the turn of the century and then these were subsequently transferred in mass to the National Archives. This would explain why they are catalogued under Târgu Mureș rather than the name of the respective village or town.
